LMS History

Our beautiful school building, located between the town of Matoaka and the community of Lashmeet, was once Matoaka High School. It was built in 1983 to replace the old school that was located in downtown Matoaka. The addition of the Lashmeet Annex was added in 1989 and transformed our building into a K-12 school.

With the opening of  Pikeview High School in 1993, Lashmeet/Matoaka School became a Pre-K through 8th grade school. We experienced another change in 2011 when our sixth, seventh, and eighth graders joined from Spanishburg, Athens, and Oakvale at Pikeview Middle School.

We currently have an enrollment of just over 280 students, with two classes per grade. Additional teachers are assigned to provide classes in: Bible, Physical Education, Art, Library/Media, and Music, as well as Special Education and Title 1 support services.
